The Last Free Place in America
This documentary visits Slab City, a lawless desert settlement in California's poorest region often called the last free place in America. At Rob's makeshift internet cafe, a colourful cast of regulars gathers for coffee, wifi and community on the fringes of society. The film captures the freedom, hardship and eccentric spirit of people living entirely off the grid. Intimate and warmly observed, it offers a window onto an American way of life like no other.
