The official story is a lone gunman named James Earl Ray, and this film politely asks how a small-time crook managed the money, the logistics, and the getaway. It gathers the doubts that have trailed the King assassination for decades, including a civil jury that once reached a very different verdict. I try to stay skeptical of tidy plots, but I am just as skeptical of tidy lone gunmen. Somewhere between those two reflexes is where this documentary lives.
