Deepfakes and the Fog of Truth
Deepfakes, or videos doctored to show people saying or doing things they didn’t say or do, are on the rise. As the technology becomes cheaper and easier to use, realistic-looking deepfake videos of celebrities' faces pasted onto other bodies, world leaders making false or provocative statements, and everyday people being turned into pornography performers are upending lives and threatening our understanding of the truth.
