Alexander the Great: How One Man Conquered the Ancient World
After the assassination of his father, Alexander III of Macedon inherited a divided kingdom - and turned it into the greatest empire of the ancient world. In 334 BC, he crossed from Europe into Asia with 37,000 men, defeating the Persian King Darius III at Issus (333 BC) and Gaugamela (331 BC). He founded Alexandria in Egypt, marched through Babylon and Persepolis, and reached the edge of India at the Hyphasis River (326 BC) - all without losing a single battle.
